Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Interfaith Minister?
Interfaith minsters and spiritual counselors embody a meaningful response to the changing spiritual needs of our times. We are of service to people of all faiths (including agnostics and atheists) who are seeking an inclusive celebration of life and / or support during a crucial time.
What is the difference between an elopement and a wedding?
The biggest difference between an elopement vs a wedding is the number of people present. While a traditional ceremony can have a large number of guests, elopements typically consist of the couple and only a tiny, select group of family or friends in attendance. My fee for an elopement covers up to 15 people- anything higher is considered a traditional ceremony.
Why is it taking so long to receive our marriage license?
For reasons I don't understand, the City of New Orleans is notoriously slow for sending out marriage licenses that arrive via mail. Your best bet is to return it IN PERSON to the same office where you applied as soon as possible after the ceremony. They will issue your license on the spot. Otherwise, expect to wait anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks.
Do you perform baptisms? Other ceremonies?
Absolutely. Out of respect for the time and energy that people of the cloth give to their religious education and training, I am ethically inclined to use different wording when describing my role as a celebrant. For instance, rather than baptism I might use baby blessing or spiritual cleansing ritual (adult). All of my ceremonies are deeply personal and customized to meet your spiritual beliefs and values.
On that note, because marriage can take place in a courthouse without religious or spiritual ceremony, I feel it is within my scope of practice to use the words wedding and marriage to describe this offering.
